Attention foodies: if you’re planning a trip to Oaxaca MUST be on your list. This colourful colonial city is a hub of art, indigenous culture and cuisine – from fusion dishes served in trendy backstreet bistros to regional specialties sold in street carts and down the local market, Mercado 20 de Noviembre. Don’t leave town without trying tamales (masa steamed in corn husk), mole (a thick chilli and chocolate-based sauce) and tlayudas (Oaxaca’s version of a pizza). Or even better, learn some of the secrets of Oaxacan cuisine yourself in a cooking class! In this video a group of Intrepid travellers visit a local produce market and make 'mole rojo' (red mole) – plus a host of other delicious dishes – with culinary legend Oscar…and then sit down to enjoy the fruits of their labour. It’s an included activity Intrepid’s Mexico Real Food Adventure, and an optional activity on many of our other Mexico itineraries.
